Leisure Cycling – The Sleeping Giant

In 2026, we celebrate 10 years of Genuss Rad with a new tour

“Der schlafende Riese” is the name of the new excursion by Sissi Tours. Every Tuesday, a guided full-day e-bike tour with Hermann around Merano. Off the beaten tourist paths, we cycle about 40 km on mostly very quiet, paved roads. We get to know the region and its people among friends, stop at traditional farmsteads, taste home-produced goods and wines, and gain insight into the local gastronomy today. We experience South Tyrolean culture and meet the people behind it.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Participation is possible at a good level of health even into older age.
  • Guests must be able to ride a bicycle, be experienced, and feel confident on the saddle (e.g. able to maintain balance at low speed).
  • We ride exclusively on asphalt roads. The ascent (200 metres of elevation gain) via the old village of Algund is steep but easily manageable with e-bikes.
  • E-bike use and helmets are mandatory for all participants.
  • We recommend comfortable sports clothing appropriate for the season, as well as sunscreen and sunglasses.
  • The tour takes place only under suitable weather conditions. If we have to cancel due to weather, the costs will be refunded.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • The tour is conducted in German, even if the booking page may seem slightly confusing.
  • We ride in small groups of a maximum of 12 to 14 people.
  • There is no need to print or bring your booking confirmation.
  • You are welcome to bring your own e-bike and pay the reduced price. It must be an e-bike.
  • Water stations and toilets are sufficiently available.
  • We meet from 9:00 a.m. at the starting point.
  • The starting point and the end point are the same.

CHILDREN & DOGS

  • Children are welcome, but they usually do not enjoy wine tastings or longer guided explanations. Therefore, we generally advise against bringing them.
  • Children from the age of 14 may join the tour if they are able to handle the smallest e-bike size and feel safe in road traffic.
  • Dogs are not allowed for four reasons:
    a) not all guests are comfortable with dogs being present;
    b) dogs are not permitted in all locations we visit;
    c) we visit farms that usually have a guard dog;
    d) multiple dogs rarely get along well – and it would be unfair to decide which ones take priority.

NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE

  • Additional attachable baskets or trailers are available for an extra charge.
  • No accident insurance is included for the tour. This means that injuries caused by personal fault (e.g. falling off the bike) are not covered.
  • Drinks (except water) during lunch are not included. Anyone who wishes to have beer or wine (please note: we are on an e-bike tour) during lunch must pay for it themselves.
  • Dessert is not included. Guests who wish to enjoy a dessert after lunch must pay for it themselves.
